MARINE SCIENCE CENTER VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION
OPPORTUNITIES
The Volusia County Marine Science Center (MSC) will be hosting monthly
volunteer recruitment events at the center from 10 a.m. - noon
Saturdays, Oct. 3, Nov. 7, Dec. 5, Jan. 9 and Feb. 6.
Would you like to help sea turtles or injured birds, open the eyes of a
child to wonders of marine life, or work with fish, corals and
aquariums? If so, join MSC staff at a monthly volunteer recruitment
event to learn more about the volunteer opportunities at the facility in
Ponce Inlet.
At the events, participants will have the opportunity to tour the center
and see the inner workings of the sea turtle and bird hospitals,
educational programs and aquarium maintenance. In addition, staff will
showcase volunteer work in other areas of the county’s environmental
programs, including educating the public about water conservation,
assisting with watershed and beach cleanups, and helping with stormwater
education projects.
“The Marine Science Center could not operate without the support of its
vital corps of volunteers,” said Ray Davis, MSC manager. “Whether your
interest is in turtles, birds, fish, corals or other marine life, the
creatures that spark your imagination are here at the center. Whether
your strengths are working with children, adults or in-between, here you
will find opportunity. And, whether your desire is to care for sick and
injured animals and help them return to the wild or to help people
understand more about the world around them, we have a need for you,”
said Davis. “Come and join us and make a difference in your world.”
