back to news releases January 26, 2006 VOLUSIA COUNTY FIRE SERVICES RESPONDS TO MOBILE HOME FIRE IN EDGEWATER Firefighters with Volusia County Fire Services responded Thursday, Jan. 26, to a fire at 101 Lewis Street, Edgewater. According to Barry Ellis, a Volusia County Fire Services battalion commander, the call came in at 11:10 a.m. and Station 22 (Oak Hill) responded with two engines. Two engines and a squad vehicle from the Edgewater Fire Department also assisted with the response. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a single-wide mobile home fully engulfed, according to Ellis. There were no occupants in the home when the firefighters arrived. The mobile home was destroyed by the fire. According to Ellis it is believed the fire was caused by a portable space heater and no smoke detectors sounded an alarm. Two families lived in the mobile home. There was another single-wide mobile home adjacent to the fire. However, firefighters were able to save it and it only sustained minimal smoke damage. There were no injuries reported.
