back to news releases March 2, 2005 VOLUSIA COUNTY FIRE CHIEF GRANTED DESIGNATION OF CERTIFIED IN HOMELAND SECURITY III Volusia County Fire Chief James Tauber has been granted the designation of Certified in Homeland Security Level III and awarded status as a member of the American College of Forensic Examiner's Institute. This certification, developed shortly after the events of September 11, 2001, brings together and recognizes people who have in-depth knowledge, experience, skill and training in homeland security. "This certification is important because it demonstrates, through an independent evaluation, those certified have expertise and a commitment to issues in the arena of homeland security," said Tauber. "It also opens the door for Volusia County to be on the cutting edge of training and information in homeland security." Tauber has been with Volusia County since 1994 and became the Director of Fire Services in 1996. He came to Volusia County from Prince Georges County, Maryland, where he retired as a battalion chief after 23 years of service. He holds an Associate in Arts, a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Public Administration. He is also certified as an emergency manager and has the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.
