HALIFAX/INDIAN RIVER CLEANUP APRIL 2

The 17th annual Halifax/Indian River Cleanup will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 2, at Halifax Harbor Marina, 450 Basin St., Daytona Beach, and at the cleanup sites.

Boaters, scouts, civic organizations, environmental groups, business and individual volunteers are encouraged to help clean the waterways by removing trash and debris.

Supplies may be picked up at:

  • Tomoka Basin GeoPark boat ramp, 2099 N. Beach St., Ormond Beach. The entry fee will be waived for participants.
  • Granada Boulevard boat ramp, north of the Granada Bridge on John Anderson Dr., Ormond Beach.
  • Halifax Harbor Marina, 450 Basin St., Daytona Beach.
  • Sunrise Park North, 1135 Riverside Dr., Holly Hill.
  • Riverfront Park, 1933 S. Palmetto Ave., South Daytona.
  • Riverside Park, 3431 S. Ridgewood Dr., Port Orange.
  • Dunlawton Bridge boat ramp, west side of the bridge, Port Orange.
  • Spruce Creek Park, 6250 S. Ridgewood Ave., Port Orange.
  • Ponce Inlet Town Hall, 4680 S. Peninsula Dr., Ponce Inlet.
  • Turnbull Bay, west end of Willard Street at the bay-shore, New Smyrna Beach.
  • North Causeway boat ramp, west side of the bridge, New Smyrna Beach.
  • Buena Vista Park, DeSoto Dr., off the North Causeway, New Smyrna Beach.
  • Mary McLeod Bethune Park, 640 Mary McCleod Bethune Blvd., Bethune Beach.
  • JB’s Fish Camp, 859 Pompano Ave., Bethune Beach.
  • Kennedy Park public boat ramp, 101 N. Riverside Dr., Edgewater.

A complimentary lunch, including displays, music and a trash contest, will be provided after the cleanup at the Halifax Harbor Marina site. Prizes will be awarded for unusual trash entries. In southeast Volusia, a complimentary lunch will be provided following the cleanup at Buena Vista Park.

Participants are encouraged to wear sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, work gloves and comfortable clothing. They also may bring water, rakes and canoes.

The Halifax/Indian River Cleanup is hosted by Volusia County Environmental Management and is sponsored in part by Boston Whaler, Waste Management, Onyx Recycling, JB’s Fish Camp, Plumbers and Pipefitter’s Union, South Daytona/Port Orange Rotary Club, Volusia County Stormwater Utilities, Keep Volusia County Beautiful, and Quality Brands.
