‘HIGHWAYMAN’ TO GIVE ART DEMONSTRATION
AT NEW SMYRNA BEACH LIBRARY
Highwayman artist R.L. Lewis will demonstrate his landscape
techniques at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in the New Smyrna Beach
Regional Library auditorium.
The Highwaymen is a group of African-American artists who lived in
the Fort Pierce area from the 1950s through the 1970s. They sold their
works on the roadside or out of the trunk of a car.
During the demonstration, Lewis will paint a local landmark and
describe the history of the Highwaymen.
Lewis taught art in the Brevard County School System for 32 years and
was inducted into the Florida Artist Hall of Fame in 2004.
This free “Live in the Library” program is sponsored by the Friends
