VOLUSIA COUNTY KICKS OFF COMMUNITY CLEANUP IN NORTH PENINSULA AREA

Beginning in May, Volusia County Solid Waste, in conjunction with Volusia County Code Enforcement, will be supporting a special community cleanup of the North Peninsula area for residential properties. The area is from Plaza Drive on the south, Kingston Shores to the north, Oceanshore Boulevard to the east and John Anderson Drive to the west.

Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, May 12, collection crews will begin at Plaza Drive and continue north to Kingston Drive. If the collection is not completed in one day, crews will begin where they left off the next day and continue toward Kingston Shores.

• Residents must have all items for collection at the curbs by 6 a.m.

• Residents must separate all items for collection (yard trash, white goods, furniture, tires, construction material, etc.).

• Items for collection should not be stacked near mailboxes, water meters, power transformers or public utilities.

• Residents should not place chemicals, paints, gas, oils or other common household chemicals at the curbside. These items may be disposed of at the Tomoka Landfill, 1990 Tomoka Farms Road, Daytona Beach. The landfill hours are 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Friday, and 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Beginning Monday, June 2, code enforcement officers will be in the area to identify potential violations of the Volusia County Zoning Ordinance and the Volusia County Code of Ordinances.

Common violations of the ordinances include, but are not limited to:

• Inoperable and/or untagged vehicles, boats or trailers.

• Improperly parked boats, recreational vehicles, cars, light trucks and trailers.

• Vehicles, trailers or boats that are parked on the lawn.

• Cars and light trucks must be parked on the driveway.

• Boats, trailers and recreational vehicles must be stored in the side or rear yard(s) and at least five feet from the property line.

• Grass that exceeds 12 inches.

• Discarded and/or abandoned appliances, automobile parts, construction materials, paper products, tires or any other junk, trash or debris.

Property owners found in violation of the ordinances will receive notices in the mail, according to Carol Kerrigan, Volusia County Code Enforcement manager.
