Volusia County Library Center
announces summer programs for youths
The Volusia County Library Center - City Island is
a cool place to be this summer. Free programs, available for toddlers
through teens until July 31, include movies, puppet shows, crafts and
Wii games.
- Free movies. Family movies will be shown
at 2 p.m. Sundays and Tuesdays. Young adult movies will be shown at
2:30 p.m. Fridays, June 26 and July 31. Movie-goers can bring their
own snacks and drinks.
- FLYP. Florida Library Youth Programs (FLYP)
will be offered at 2 p.m. Mondays for children in grades 1-5, but are
open to all ages if space permits. Programs include balloon creations,
a variety show, reggae music, storyteller, drums and puppet shows.
- Wii games. Children ages 12 and under
can play Wii games at 2 p.m. Wednesdays, while youths from 11 - 19 can
play at 2:30 p.m. Fridays, June 19 and July 24.
- Fun Fridays. Children can learn magic
tricks, watch puppet shows and talk to a Daytona Beach firefighter
during this program, offered at 10:30 a.m. Fridays. A Kid Fitness
program will be offered at 2 p.m. Friday, July 17.
- Storytime. Toddler and preschool
storytime will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays for children
5 and under.
- Family Stories ‘n’ Craft. All ages are
invited to this program at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays.
- Tween and Teen Program. This program,
for youths between 11 and 19, begins at 3 p.m. Wednesdays. Activities
include a scavenger hunt, book club and “name that tune.”
Groups must call in advance to register for
programs.
