ACTRESS TO PORTRAY DR. MARY McLEOD BETHUNE
AT DELAND REGIONAL LIBRARY

Ersula Knox Odom, a “road scholar” with the Florida Humanities Council, will portray Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune during a dramatic presentation at 3:15 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, at the DeLand Regional Library.

The program, which is free and open to the public, is part of the annual Evelyn Sharpe Memorial Lecture Series and is sponsored by the Friends of the DeLand Library.

Travel back to 1954 to meet the founder of Bethune-Cookman College. Dr. Bethune was a visionary educator, civil rights activist and presidential adviser. Portraying Dr. Bethune, Odom will share stories about the educator’s life and accomplishments and her thoughts about the Supreme Court’s landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision.

Odom also will relate some life lessons learned at her grandmother’s feet from her own book, At Sula’s Feet.

Odom is an essayist, motivational speaker, prize-winning life lyricist and author. She has a theater degree from Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, and lives in Brandon.
