Volusia County Solid Waste and Recycling is giving Volusia County residents a chance to get rid of environmentally dangerous household chemicals. Household hazardous waste Amnesty Days are April 11 - 12. Materials that could contaminate groundwater, or pose a threat to the owner if kept too long, may be taken to: The Tomoka Landfill in Daytona Beach and the West Volusia Transfer Station in DeLand accept residential household hazardous waste year-round, free. Household hazardous waste includes solvents, auto and household rechargeable batteries, pool chemicals, pesticides, motor oil, used oil-based paint, gasoline, fluorescent lamps (limit 10), and cleaning solutions. Please do not mix any chemicals. Materials should be in their original containers or the contents should be marked on the outside. Businesses are not eligible for fee disposal during Amnesty Days. The new Household Hazardous Waste Facility at Tomoka Landfill, 1990 Tomoka Farms Rd., Daytona Beach will open Friday, April 11. Residents are encouraged to use this new state of the art facility to help protect Volusia Countys environment.
