National leaders in airport safety again have
recognized excellence at Daytona Beach International Airport (DBIA).
During the recent Federal Aviation
Administration Communications Conference in Atlanta, DBIA was awarded
the Air Carrier Airport Safety Award for the southern region. Among
DBIA’s accomplishments are establishing a unique graphic notice to
airmen system and continuing close work with the FAA to improve
operational procedures and signage at certain high-activity locations on
the airport. Additionally in 2008, the DBIA established an active and
successful foreign object debris program that includes all tenants.
Daytona Beach International Airport is the sixth
most active airport in the United States for general aviation aircraft
movements. The Volusia County-operated facility has a well-developed
system of FAA/tenant safety meetings to discuss issues and refine
approaches to improving safety.
In November 2008, DBIA was honored with the
Safety Mark of Distinction Award following five years of annual Federal
Aviation Regulation Part 139 inspections without discrepancies. Only 12
airports in the southern region, which is comprised of 101 commercial
service airports, have received the award that was established in 2004.
“Much of the credit for these safety awards goes
to the DBIA Operations Department and Operations Supervisor John
Murray,” said DBIA Director of Aviation Dennis McGee. “John has
continued to focus on improving operational conditions and safety at our
airport.”
