Continental
Express offers nonstop service to Cleveland
Continental Express, a subsidiary of Houston-based Continental
Airlines, has announced new nonstop, weekend service between Cleveland and Daytona Beach.
"This is excellent news for our
travelers," said Daytona Beach International Airport Director of Aviation Dennis
McGee. "Cleveland is one of the top 10 destinations of our passengers. We are
committed to do all we can to make the new Cleveland service a success."
Continental Express will use its
50-passenger Embraer ERJ-145 regional jet, also known as ExpressJet, according to McGee.
The air carrier will offer one flight on Saturday and one flight on Sunday between Daytona
Beach International Airport and its hub at Clevelands Hopkins International Airport.
The weekend flights will leave Cleveland at 12:20 p.m. and will arrive in Daytona Beach at
2:58 p.m. The return flight to Cleveland will leave Daytona Beach at 4:25 p.m. and arrive
in Cleveland at 6:44 p.m.
Continental has said the fares for
the Daytona Beach service will be competitive with fares in Orlando and Jacksonville,
McGee said.
As a regional carrier to Continental
Airlines, Continental Express offers daily departures to more than 105 cities from hubs in
Cleveland, Houston and New York. Weekend service from Daytona Beach to Cleveland will
provide travelers numerous connections and new travel options, McGee said.
McGee said the new service comes as a
result of a concerted effort by the Airport and the local business community. He said
local businessman Kevin Bowler and George Mirabal, President of The
Chamber: Daytona Beach and Halifax
Area, played a key role in the discussions with Continental during the last year.
Daytona Beach International, with
cooperation from the Countys tourist advertising authorities, is working with
Clevelands convention and visitors bureau, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
and Continental Express on an extensive marketing campaign locally and in the Cleveland
area, McGee said.
The new service begins December 16.
