The Washington Palm is an extremely tall palm tree, whose height is often shortened by lightning and hurricanes.

Leaves
Bright green fronds are 5 feet long and 4 feet wide, being supported by thick petioles armed with sharp barbs. As the older leaves die, they fall back against the trunk creating a "skirt" effect. These dead leaves however is a fire hazard and provides habitat for rats and other undesirable creatures.

Flowers
5-6 foot long influrorescenes are full of tiny, white flowers.

Fruit
½ inch long black berries.

Trunk
Washintgonian Palm has a single trunk that bulges at the ground but becomes very narrow with height.

Washington Palms are striking when planted at evenly-spaced intervals along a road or against high rise buildings in groups. It is NOT good for small yards!!!
