SPECIAL REFERENDUM ELECTION FOR VOTERS IN PRECINCT 813
(SOUTH BEACH ANNEXATION)

It has recently come to the attention of Supervisor of Elections Ann McFall that the Special Referendum Election submitted by the City of New Smyrna Beach is not an issue intended to be voted on by residents of the City of New Smyrna Beach. The Department has learned the referendum involving the annexation of the South Beach area into the City of New Smyrna Beach is to only be voted on by the residents of the area considered for annexation. This is the South Beach area including Silver Sands and Bethune Beach. These voters are assigned to precinct 813, Silver Sands Civic Center, 5 Palm Drive, New Smyrna Beach.

“Upon review by this Department, and the respective attorneys for the County of Volusia and the City of New Smyrna Beach, the original ballot for the City of New Smyrna Beach has been withdrawn and will no longer contain the annexation referendum question.” stated McFall. “Voters assigned to precinct 813 who have already ordered and received an absentee ballot for this upcoming election will be receiving a revised ballot by mail. The ballots previously sent to these voters have been cancelled and should be destroyed by those voters when they are received. All other voters outside precinct 813 will not be affected.”

Early voting begins October 23, 2006 and ends November 4, 2006. Locations are the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, Deltona Regional Library, Daytona Beach Regional Library (City Island) and the Supervisor of Elections Office in Deland. Hours of operation are 8a-4p Monday – Saturday. Ballots for all voting citizens of Volusia County will be available at all 4 (four) early voting sites and also at their local precinct on November 7, 2006.
