As authorized by Florida law, any eligible registered voter in Volusia
County has the opportunity to request and vote by absentee ballot. When a
voter requests an absentee ballot, the voter may choose to receive a ballot
for every election the voter is eligible to vote in through the next two (2)
regularly scheduled general elections. Or the voter may choose to request a
ballot for a specific election or elections.
As soon
as they become available, absentee ballots are mailed to the address
requested by the voter or may be picked up in person at the Supervisor of
Elections office. Absentee ballots may also be voted in person in the office
of the Supervisor of Elections.
Who
may vote by absentee ballot
Any registered voter in
Volusia County may vote by absentee ballot in
any election for which they are qualified to do so. If you are not a

Who
may request an absentee ballot
A request for an absentee
ballot may be made by:

The voter for his/ her own
ballot;
-
Another person from
a member of his/her immediate family
(with the permission of the voter);

The legal guardian
of the person for whom the ballot is being requested (with the
permission of the voter).

Needed to Request an Absentee Ballot
In order to obtain an absentee
ballot, you must provide:

Name of the voter for whom
ballot is requested;

Voter’s address;
-
Address where absentee
ballot is to be mailed;
-
Voter’s date of birth;
-
Voter’s telephone number (if
available);
-
Requestor’s name, if other
than voter;
-
Requestor’s relationship to
voter;
-
Requestor’s address, if
other than voter;
-
Requestor’s driver’s license
number (if available);
-
Requestor’s signature
(written requests only);
-
Photo and signature
identification (requests made in person).
How
to Designate Another Person to Pick Up an Absentee Ballot
Five days prior to Election Day, or on Election Day itself, a voter may
designate
another
person (other than a candidate) to pick up a ballot for him/her from the Department of
Elections or from an early voting site when in operation. This designation must be in writing
and must
be signed by the voter.
The designee must be mentioned
by name and if he/she is a
member of the voter's immediate family, the relationship to the
voter must
be stated.
The voter may use a plain piece of paper for this purpose or he/she may
use
the on-line Absentee Ballot Designee form.
The designee must
show a photo and signature identification and complete an Affidavit
for a
Designee to Obtain an Absentee Ballot form (to be provided at the Department or early voting site) before he/she may
pick up a ballot.
No one may pick up more than 2 ballots for other
voters, except
for members of their immediate family as stated in
Florida Statute 101.62-(4)(b)4.
If you are picking up an
absentee ballot for someone other than yourself, you must have the
following:

Written and signed
authorization from the voter designating the person to pick up the ballot and, if
related, stating the relationship to the voter or the completed
Absentee Ballot Designee
form.
