Where Do I Vote

Early voting locations that are open prior to an election are not the voting    locations you can go to on election day. On election day, Florida law requires you vote in the precinct where you live.

Your Voter Information Card shows the precinct number and voting districts for your address.  If you moved, you must vote in your new precinct that is assigned to your residential address.  Do not return to your old precinct. If you have not notified the Department of Elections prior to an election of your new address, you can make this change on election day at the voting precinct.

If you are unsure of your registration status, contact the Department of Elections.

To find your precinct and related information, visit the Precinct Locator.

All polling places and early voting sites are accessible for persons with disabilities.

When are the Polls Open

Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. on election day.  Early voting locations when in operation open from 8:00 a.m and close at 4:00 p.m.

To avoid lines, vote in the mid-morning or mid-afternoon when polling places are less likely to be crowded.

If you are in line when the polls close at 7:00 p.m., you will be given the opportunity to vote.

Identification Requirements

Voters going to the polls will be asked to present a form of acceptable, current and valid photo and signature identification, listed below:

  • Florida Driver’s License;

  • Florida Identification Card issued by the Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles;

  • United States Passport;

  • Debit or Credit Card;

  • Military Identification;

  • Student Identification;

  • Retirement Center Identification;

  • Neighborhood Association Identification;

  • Public Assistance Identification.

If a voter cannot provide one ID with both photo and signature, the voter must provide two forms of ID to satisfy the requirement.  The ID that contains the photo must come from the list above.  The signature may come from any other form of ID.

If a voter is unable to meet the identification requirements, he or she may vote a provisional ballot.  (Florida Statute 101.043)

What if I Need Assistance

If you have a question about the voting the process or equipment, ask a poll worker.  They can explain voting procedures; however, they may not discuss issues or candidates listed on the ballot.

If you need assistance marking your ballot or brought someone with you to help mark your ballot, notify a poll worker.  They will ensure that the required paperwork is completed and that you receive any assistance you may need.

If you make a mistake on your ballot, go immediately to the Voter Assistance table where your original ballot will be spoiled and replaced with a new ballot.  You may be issued up to two replacement ballots. (Florida Statute 101.5608(2)(b))

Please review your selections before casting your ballot on the voting equipment.  Once a ballot has been cast, you may not be issued another ballot. (Florida Statute 104.18)

What will be on my Ballot

Voters are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the candidates and issues that will appear on their ballot in advance of Election Day.  This information is available in several places, including:

Online... on the Volusia County Department of Elections web site.
In the newspaper... the Sunday prior to the start of early voting.
In person... at the Department of Elections or at an early voting site, when in operation.
By mail... you may contact the Department of Elections and request a sample ballot.  In even-numbered years, the Department of Elections automatically mails a sample ballot to every active registered voter in Volusia County.

Voting is not a test.  You may mark a sample ballot with your choices and bring it to the polls or write your selections on a slip of paper and bring it with you.
