July 2003 County Council approved 1-percent resort tax increase to fund the expansion
October 2003 County Council selected construction managers, Hardin/Peck
December 2004 Schematics unveiling for community at the Ocean Center
April 2005 Construction of south parking lot begins
July 2005 Construction of south parking lot concludes
January 10, 2006 Neighbors' Forum at the Ocean Center, 7 p.m.
January 2006 Civil/site work begins at Ocean Center expansion site
September 2008 - Ocean Center receives a temporary certificate of occupancy on its new Exhibit Hall.
December 12, 2008 - The Ocean Center plaque dedication will take place.
February 22, 2009 - Ocean Center open house and grand opening
February 28, 2009 - Ocean Center Evening Showcase event
- The new Ocean Center is double the size of the existing facility and will have more than 200,000 square feet of interior meeting and exhibit space and more than 300,000 of exterior and parking lot space.
- The new Ocean Center facility will display $400,000 of visual art through the Countys Art in Public Places Program.
- The Ocean Center is 400 feet from the white-capped waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
- The Ocean Center is a service of Volusia County Government.
