The Family Nutrition Program (FNP) and the University of Florida
University of Florida Extension Service work in collaboration with local
County partners and the Florida Department of Children and Families to
deliver educational programs to Volusia families.
FNP provides educational programs on general nutrition, food
selection, food safety, and managing food resources. Youth are also
encouraged to discover "where our food comes from".
FNP programs are offered in 20 elementary schools throughout the
county, as well as to parents and senior groups.
Program Assistants, who are University of Florida employees, receive
continuous training and support from the FNP program coordinator.
Curriculum and support materials are provided through the Florida

EFNEP
Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program

EFNEP is designed to help limited-income families improve their diets
through nutrition education. In a series of 10 - 20 lessons parents
learn:
- Ways to eat healthy
- Tips to save money on food
- Low-cost and easy-to-prepare recipes
- Safe food handling
A variety of teaching methods are used for a hands-on approach. Group
activities, games and food demonstrations are part of the EFNEP program.
