County's Wildfires Update
Lightning strikes
today provided the only areas of concern for Volusia
County fire officials, while heavy, scattered showers
helped cool some of the County's hot spots. Mostly,
fire crews conducted mop-up operations. Officials
continue to caution, though, that the emergency
situation continues as insufficient rains have fallen
on the region.
One new fire ignited, east of Lake Ashby, but was
quickly contained after burning two acres. Other
areas experienced minor flare-ups and were rapidly
handled by firefighters.
In other fire related news:
The School District of Volusia County reopened their
Summer School program for Tuesday, July 7. In
addition, all related programs will re-open. Friday,
July 17 will be the only makeup day for summer
school.
Flagler County Courts open at 8:00AM on Tuesday
morning.
There were currently no road closures in the County,
but the intersection of County Roads 3 and 17 was
closed intermittently due to smoke/visibility
problems.
Just a few County households remained without
electric power.
Only 12 people were in Volusia County shelters at
4:00PM, and they were all from Flagler County.
