Scale-back Continues in Volusia County Wildfire Assault
Fire crews in Volusia County today continued their mop-up
operations throughout the County, as the Pierson area remained an active region. But crews
were doing pro-active backburning there, including a 600 acre burn today. Crews were still
operational in the Ormond Beach Airport area, as well as near Lake Woodruff.
Crews were being relieved on a regular basis, and others in the 2,000 member force should
begin returning to their home areas starting on Friday. Some of the Volusias
firefighting crews sent to Flagler County have begun to return.
More heavy rains came to sections of the County today and with them, some lightning
strikes that caused a limited number of fires that were quickly contained.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection determined an Ozone reading of 45 in
the County, a "good" Air Quality Index reading. Particulate matter was in the
"moderate" range at 58.
Volusia Countys Emergency Operations Center and Citizens Information Center are now
open from 8:00AM - 5:00PM daily util further notice.
