VOLUSIA EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CONTINUES
TO DEMOBILIZE; CONTAINMENT IMPROVES
Volusia County Emergency Management
officials were scaling back operations Thursday while continuing to keep a close eye on
fire activity.
The U.S. Forest Service reported Volusia fires
are 80 percent contained, meaning lines are built around these blazes and there is no more
fuel for the fire to burn within these lines. One stubborn hot spot continues in the
Ormond Beach area, off the northeast side of Durrance Lane.
The latest damage report from the Volusia County
Property Appraiser's Office now shows six single family, one mobile home and two
commercial businesses destroyed by the fires. Four of the homes and one business were in
the County north of Ormond Beach. Total damage estimate now stands at $2.1 million.
In other fire related news, the Small Business
Administration will be establishing a local Outreach Center to accept loan applications.
The location and hours will be determined soon.
The firefighters should be returning to their
home area starting on Friday. The firefighting housing facilities at Stetson University
and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will close Sunday. The Salvation Army will shut
down its feeding operations Sunday after breakfast.
The Emergency Operations Center and Citizens
Information Center are open from 8-5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
