FIRE FORCE DIGS IN TO PROTECT LAKE HARNEY AREA

A voluntary relocation of homes in the south Lake Harney Woods/Independence Drive area was given Monday afternoon after fires threatened homes in that area.

The fire moved into the Lake Harney area from Brevard County is and burning parallel to State Road 46 along Independence Drive.

Crews were stationed in front of about a dozen home in the Indian Farms area southwest of Lake Harney to protect them, fire officials said. No injuries or loss of homes was reported.

Road closings include Pioneer Trail between State Road 44 and State Road 415 due to a controlled burn. Traffic was reported slowing down along I-4 due to smoke. Other controlled burns planned for today include south of Plantation Pines subdivision starting at about 5 p.m.

Donations of large, 80-quarts coolers are needed. The coolers should be dropped off at the Salvation Army, 560 Ballough Rd., Daytona Beach.
