FIRE BEHAVIOR ANALYST JOINS VOLUSIA/USFS/DOF WILDFIRES TEAM

Walt Thompson, a fire behavior analyst from the Nature Conservancy, is in Volusia County and consulting with fire officials. A report prepared for this morning gave details on the weather situation effecting the fires. Weather information given included the forecast for the Volusia County area---that there is nothing on the horizon that will significantly diminish the fires.

There will be some controlled burns in different locations around Volusia County today; they will be handled by the U.S. Forest Service. Volusia County Fire Services is maintaining all fire lines throughout the county, and crews are working mop-up operations.

The estimated cost of daily operations for Volusia County has increased to $150,000.

SR 11 from SR40 north into Flagler County is closed. Other roads may be closed throughout the day due to controlled burns. Roads will be closed when heavy smoke makes travel unsafe and are reopened when smoke clears.
