FIRE MOVES BACK TO BREVARD; NEW EVACUATION ORDERED

A fire which threatened homes in the Lake Harney /Independence Road area of Osteen appears to be contained and is moving back to Brevard County. But, firefighters are keeping a close eye on a fire near Maytown Road in the same area, which could burn across I-95.

A voluntary evacuation for the Quail Ranch Road area, Swamp Deer Road and Falcon Roost just north of Lake Ashby is in effect. The Volusia County Fairgrounds at State Road 44 and I-4 has been opened for people and their pets.

A new fire, four acres in size, has flared up on Putnam Grove Road in Oak Hill. The fire is contained. One manufactured home was endangered but not damaged.

The Division of Forestry is continuing to conduct some controlled burns in different locations around Volusia County. County firefighters are maintaining all fire lines through the county and crews are working mop-up operations.

Donations of ice, new, large coolers and the use of a refrigerated truck are needed. Ice should be delivered to the Fire Science Institute at 3889 Tiger Bay Road, Daytona Beach. Coolers should be taken to the Salvation Army Warehouse, 560 Ballough Road, Daytona Beach. (904) 740-5100 in West Volusia
(904) 248-8100 in Daytona Beach
