FIRE
MOVES BACK TO BREVARD; NEW EVACUATION ORDERED
A fire which
threatened homes in the Lake Harney /Independence
Road area of Osteen appears to be contained and is
moving back to Brevard County. But, firefighters are
keeping a close eye on a fire near Maytown Road in
the same area, which could burn across I-95.
A voluntary evacuation
for the Quail Ranch Road area, Swamp Deer Road and
Falcon Roost just north of Lake Ashby is in effect.
The Volusia County Fairgrounds at State Road 44 and
I-4 has been opened for people and their pets.
A new fire, four acres
in size, has flared up on Putnam Grove Road in Oak
Hill. The fire is contained. One manufactured home
was endangered but not damaged.
The Division of
Forestry is continuing to conduct some controlled
burns in different locations around Volusia County.
County firefighters are maintaining all fire lines
through the county and crews are working mop-up
operations.
Donations of ice, new,
large coolers and the use of a refrigerated truck are
needed. Ice should be delivered to the Fire Science
Institute at 3889 Tiger Bay Road, Daytona Beach.
Coolers should be taken to the Salvation Army
Warehouse, 560 Ballough Road, Daytona Beach. If you
can offer the use of a refrigerated truck, call

The State Department
of Transportation is clearing trees from along the
sides of Interstate 4 between Daytona Beach and
DeLand to prevent dead or dying trees from falling
across the highway. The DOT also will be removing
trees from along the north side of U.S. 92, while
utility companies have been removing the dead trees
from along the south side.
Volusia County
Emergency Operations plans to scale back its hours of
operations to 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. The center will be
fully staffed and additional staff will be call if
needed. The last press releases and situation reports
will be sent prior to 5 p.m. The County's website
will be updated from 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. The Citizens
Information Center will be open from 6 a.m.-midnight.
