Collision on State Road
40 Kills Four
An early morning three-vehicle accident on
January 3, 2005, left four people dead, including two children. Two
vehicles, a pick-up and SUV, collided at County Road 3 and State Road 40
and were thrown into the path of a tractor-trailer.
The pick up’s driver died at the scene and
two passengers riding in the bed of the vehicle were ejected and
transported to Florida Hospital DeLand. The driver of the sports utility
vehicle and his two children, ages four and seven were killed. The mother
of the children survived the crash and was transported to Halifax Medical
Center in critical condition. The driver of the eighteen-wheeler was not
injured.
Engines 41, 44 and Squad 46 responded to
the scene along with Battalions 30 and 40.
