VCFS Making a Difference
St. Peter's Catholic Church in DeLand was the host to a Child Safety Seat Checkup held on March 19, 2005. During the event, VCFS Firefighters, who are certified Child Passenger Safety Seat Technicians, assisted in checking 26 child safety seats. Under the Child Safety Seat Grant Program, 19 new or replacement seats were issued and installed and the parents received safety education regarding the proper usage of the seats. This is important, as simply installing the seats without using them properly will not safe lives. The middle photo shows a seat in which a parent made a knot in an attempt to secure a broken child safety seat to a car. If an accident had occurred, this knot would have failed. This child safety seat was replaced by a Child Passenger Safety Seat Technician with a safe, correctly installed child passenger safety seat appropriate for the child.
