State Road 44 accident
Two people lost their lives when they lost control of their vehicle as they tried to negotiate a curve on State Road 44. The vehicle crossed over the center lane into oncoming traffic and was hit in the side by a tractor trailer on March 20, 2005. Volusia County Fire Services' Squad 35 assisted the DeLand Fire Department with the extrication of the bodies using hydraulic tools.
