The
benefits that come along with being a Volusia County Fire Services
volunteer firefighter are numerous while also giving you the personal
satisfaction of knowing you are helping the neighbors within your
community. Other benefits include:
- In-station training that is provided by
state certified instructors
- Opportunities are available for
advancement/ specialization
- Weekly drill expense reimbursement is
offered for those eligible
- Worker’s Compensation coverage is
offered
- Length of service awards are issued
- Health and wellness checkups are
provided
- Life insurance coverage is available for
line of duty losses
- An Employee Assistance Program is
offered to volunteers
- Uniforms and personal protective
equipment is provided
A pension system is also provided to
eligible volunteer firefighters. The volunteer retirement program is based
on a point accrual system where points are earned based on training, drill
attendance, fire station duty/standby, response to emergencies and other
opportunities to accrue points. A minimum of 10 creditable years is needed
to vest in the program. The minimum benefit at normal retirement age is
$200 per month with a maximum retirement benefit of $700 per month.
