NOTICE TO
CONTRACTORS: Effective Jan. 2, 2009, all building permit
applications will require the notarized signature of the owner.
Please be aware that impact fee schedules for parks,
fire and thoroughfare roads are under review and have not changed.
Volusia County Council will hear the findings of the consultant study at a workshop
to be scheduled
in 2009.
The Permit Center processes all
building permits for projects located in unincorporated Volusia County. If
your project is in one of the cities you will obtain the
applications from their municipal building department. If you have a question about your site location, go to the
Property Appraiser's
web site. For status information or to
schedule inspections, make sure you have your permit number to call: (386)
626-6640 in DeLand, (386)
257-6092 in Daytona Beach,
or (386)
424-6892 in New Smyrna Beach.
Where to start (residential) -
Before starting the permit application for your project,
verify that zoning regulations allow the type of structure you plan to
build. An agricultural use on the property might allow you to build
a farm building without a building permit. For more information go to the
Zoning page.
Where to start (commercial) - Most commercial
buildings will need a
development
review before a building permit application can be submitted.
Impact fees
The Permit Center also manages
the county wide impact fee programs. If your project is within city
limits, you should
register
for county impact fee review when you submit your building permit
application. Projects located anywhere in the county and within
city boundaries will be assessed a road impact fee and
a school impact fee.
In the unincorporated county, impact fees
are assessed for fire, local parks and district parks. Projects in the
cities of DeBary, Oak Hill, Lake Helen
and Pierson will be assessed a fire impact fee in addition to fees for
roads and schools. Many cities have impact fees for municipal funding so
be sure to confirm charges directly with their building department. Volusia County Impact Fee Ordinance
is Chapter 70 of the Volusia County Code of Ordinances.
E-update
- From time to time, there are changes to fee schedules or procedures.
We would like to keep you up to date by making sure you get the
information you need.
