City of Daytona Beach issues burn ban

Lt. Fred Godawa
Public Information Officer and Community Educational Officer
godawafred@dbfd.us

It has been the policy of the City of Daytona Beach Fire Department that all outdoor burning is prohibited year round. This includes outdoor recreational campfires, open outdoor cooking fires, trash fires, outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, chimneys, kilns and ovens.

Outdoor cooking using an approved contained charcoal grill or gas grills are the only exceptions. When the coals have burned to ash, soak well with water and make sure they are completely out before disposing of them.

Please also exercise extreme caution when parking vehicles on dry grass. The exhaust systems under vehicles can produce excessive heat that can easily ignite vegetation. Extinguish all smoking materials carefully, and maintain 30 feet of defensible space around your dwelling. Large, leafy, hardwood trees should be pruned so that the lowest branches are at least six to ten feet high to prevent a fire on the ground from spreading up to the tree tops. Keep gutters, eves and the roof clear of leaves and other debris.

The Daytona Beach Fire Department has informational brochures on reducing the wild fire danger around your residence. If you should have any questions concerning open flames within city limits, please contact our office at (386) 671-4000
