Halifax Plantation Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion

Volusia County Utilities is currently constructing an expansion to the Halifax Plantation Wastewater Treatment Plant, located in Halifax Plantation Subdivision in Northeast Volusia County. When the project is completed in December 2003, the plant’s treatment capacity will be expanded from 90,000 gallons per day to 300,000 which will provide wastewater treatment for approximately 1500 to 2000 homes. The cost for the plant expansion is approximately $1,000,000

North Peninsula Stormwater Improvements Phase 1A

The stormwater utility is nearing completion of a flood abatement and pollution reduction project in the North Peninsula. The project is located on River Drive and Circle Drive, between State Rd A1A and John Anderson Drive. The project consists of the replacement of old, deteriorated pipes and storm inlets. In addition, portions of the roadway and some properties will be relieved of flooding problems by the new network of pipes, and an overflow connection to the Halifax River. Prior to discharge to the river, the stormwater will be treated in a underground retention system known as "ex-filtration". This system consists of perforated pipes in a trench surrounded by a gravel bed. This allows stormwater to flow into the pipe and slowly dissipate into the gravel, and finally reach the soil, thus removing many of the stormwater pollutants.

You Might Ask

Q. What makes ice cubes cloudy?

A: Commercially made ice is stirred as it is being frozen; household ice is not. Without mixing, many more ice crystals form, and air is trapped in the ice. These crystals and air distort light rays, and this distortion gives home-frozen ice a cloudy appearance.
