SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING SUSPICIOUS DEATH NEAR ORANGE CITY

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating Wednesday’s discovery of a body found inside a shed near a home on Cypress Avenue west of Orange City. The Sheriff’s Office was first called out to the home at 1210 Cypress Ave. shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday night by a concerned family member who said he had been unable to contact his parents for several days. The son became so concerned that he drove from Georgia to check the residence and called the Sheriff’s Office Tuesday night.

No sign of the parents was found inside the home Tuesday night. Sheriff’s deputies who returned to the residence Wednesday morning to continue the investigation found a body inside the shed. Investigators haven’t examined the body yet to determined whether it’s a male or female and are in the process of obtaining a search warrant before resuming their on-scene investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Major Case Unit is treating the death as suspicious and is searching for a pickup truck missing from the residence. The truck is a blue, 2002 Chevrolet Silverado with a Florida license tag, GBGOA. Anyone with information about the death or the whereabouts of the truck is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 736-5999 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
