BODY IN SHED CONFIRMED TO BE ADULT WOMAN

Investigators have confirmed that it was an adult woman whose body was discovered Wednesday inside a shed behind a residence on Cypress Avenue near Orange City. The body, which hasn’t been identified, showed signs of decomposition. The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy on Thursday that officials hope will yield clues to the identity of the victim and how she died. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is treating the death as suspicious.

A married couple, 47-year-old Larry Roberson and 53-year-old Debra Roberson, live at the home where the body was found. Sheriff’s investigators have been unable to account for the whereabouts of either of the Robersons or Debra Roberson’s blue, 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. While the victim’s identity isn’t known, investigators have identified Larry Roberson as a “person of interest” in the investigation. “Mr. Roberson is certainly someone that we would like to speak to,” said Sergeant Bob Kelley, head of the Sheriff’s Office’s Major Case Unit. “Talking to anyone who might be able to shed some light on what happened to the victim is an important step in the investigation, and that certainly would include anyone who lived on the property where the body was found.”

Anyone with information about the death or the whereabouts of Larry Roberson or the missing pickup truck is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 736-5999 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
