SHERIFF’S
OFFICE SEEKS HELP IN LOCATING ROBBERY SUSPECT
The
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a 25-year-old Deltona
man accused of robbing a resident at gunpoint and firing a shot with two
women and a
4-year-old boy in the house. The incident occurred July 25
at a home on Boundary Street near DeLand. Sheriff’s investigators have
filed criminal charges against David Wilkerson for
armed robbery,
shooting into an occupied dwelling and two counts of aggravated assault
with a firearm. Anyone with information on Wilkerson’s whereabouts can
report it anonymously and qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
The
incident began around 9:46 p.m., when Wilkerson and another man went to
the victims’ home to visit. The victims, a 25-year-old resident at the
home and her 23-year-old female friend, let them in because they knew
the other man. A 4-year-old boy also was home at the time of the
incident. The witnesses told investigators that after talking for about
five minutes, Wilkerson pulled out a gun and demanded money and jewelry
from the victims. They turned over an undisclosed amount of cash, but
refused to give up their jewelry. That’s when Wilkerson fired the gun.
The bullet struck a kitchen cabinet, and the two men fled the home.
Initially, deputies only had a phony name to work with. However, the
investigation led them to Wilkerson’s home at 220 Meyer Court in
Deltona. After the victims picked him out of a photo lineup,
investigators filed the criminal charges. On Friday, Circuit Court Judge
J. David Walsh issued arrest warrants calling for Wilkerson to be held
on $120,000 bond. Meanwhile, investigators are still looking into the
possible involvement of the second man.
Wilkerson
is an approximately 5’9” white man who weighs about 160 pounds. He
has short, brown hair, brown eyes and a fair complexion. Anyone with
information is asked to call Sheriff’s investigator James Mathis at
(386) 943-7866. Those wishing to report information anonymously can also
qualify for a reward of up to $1,000 by calling Crime Stoppers of
Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS.
