SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES ARMED ATTACK NEAR PORT ORANGE

An armed intruder targeted a home near Port Orange Thursday night and fled with the lone victim’s cash. The suspect brandished a handgun during the robbery, but no shots were fired. The 61-year-old victim sustained only minor injuries from being struck on the side of the head by the suspect, but he declined medical treatment.

The robbery happened at Shady Village mobile home park, 3200 S. Nova Road, Lot 55, at approximately 11:50 p.m. Gary Freimark told deputies that he had been sleeping on his couch and awoke to find someone in his kitchen. The suspect ran over to Freimark, put a gun to his head and demanded money. The victim handed over some cash, and the suspect then struck him in the face, knocking him to the floor. The suspect finally fled through the front door. Freimark said that the suspect might have driven away in an old, light-colored pickup truck with a loud exhaust.

The suspect was described as a black man, about 6’ tall with a thin build. He wore all black clothing and a ski mask. It’s unclear how the suspect may have entered the home.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact investigator Ricardo Acevedo (386) 423-3301 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at 1-888-277-TIPS.  Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
