CAR
BURGLARY SUSPECT CAUGHT ON TAPE
A
video surveillance system installed by a security conscious DeBary
resident may help the Volusia County Sheriff's Office nab a car burglar.
Two victims in the neighborhood reported on Sunday that electronics had
been stolen from their unlocked cars overnight. The resident with the
surveillance system had locked his car, but the thief nonetheless gave
the door handles a test tug while unwittingly being taped. Investigators
released the video Monday afternoon in the hopes that someone will
recognize the suspect and help investigators identify him.

The two unlocked vehicles were in the owners' driveways on Spring Glen
Drive and Spring Glen Court. They went out to their cars Sunday morning
and discovered that items like GPS devices and a computer laptop were
missing. They then reported the burglaries to the Sheriff's Office. A
man down the street didn't have anything stolen, but reported to the
Sheriff's Office that as he reviewed his home surveillance system tape
Sunday morning he saw a young man in his driveway checking his vehicle's
doors. According to the tape, the incident happened at about 4:40 a.m.
The
suspect is a white man approximately 15 to 20 years old. He is about
5'10" tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He has short, dark hair and
wore a black sleeveless shirt and dark colored pants. Anyone with
information about this incident is asked to contact Sheriff's
investigator Charles Lee at (386) 668-3830 or Crime Stoppers of
Northeast Florida toll-free at 1-888-277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers
will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
