SECOND ARREST MADE IN HOME INVASION

Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators have arrested the accused mastermind of a home invasion on Thursday that victimized a 69-year-old Ormond-by-the-Sea resident. Sunday’s arrest of 23-year-old Jibri Charles was the second arrest in the case in the past three days. Investigators arrested Jeremiah Holliday at the Volusia Mall in Daytona Beach on Friday as he entered a stolen sport-utility vehicle believed to be used in the home invasion. Investigators are still searching for a third accomplice in the violent attack that left the victim with a bloody gash on his head and several bruises.

Sheriff’s investigators had been searching for Charles all weekend, after finding bond paperwork in his name at the scene of the attack. Shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Daytona Beach police nabbed Charles in the vicinity of South Atlantic Avenue and Harvey Avenue. In addition to the evidence found at the scene of Thursday’s attack, Charles also was implicated in the home invasion by Holliday. Investigators believe Charles planned the attack and had knowledge of the victim’s habits and possessions because he’s related to an acquaintance of the victim. The suspects are accused of taking cash, collectible coins and a cellular telephone while ransacking the victim’s home and tugboat docked across the street in the Halifax River. Charles had $550 on him when he was arrested on Sunday.

Charles, of 123 Congress Ave. in Daytona Beach, was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach at 7:09 p.m. Sunday evening. He was being held without bond on charges of home invasion robbery, grand theft, burglary, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, kidnapping and aggravated battery on a person over the age of 65. Ormond Beach Police are still investigating to determine whether the defendants were responsible for a home invasion in Ormond Beach about three hours before the attack in Ormond-by-the-Sea. In the attack in Ormond-by-the-Sea, the victim’s hands were bound and he was battered and choked by the intruders.
