SHERIFF’S OFFICE SEARCHING FOR THIRD HOME INVASION SUSPECT

Volusia County Sheriff’s investigators are asking for the public’s help in locating a 21-year-old man who has been named as the third suspect in last week’s home invasion that victimized a 69-year-old Ormond-by-the-Sea resident. Sheriff’s investigators arrested the first two suspects, 21-year-old Jeremiah Holliday and 23-year-old Jibri Charles, on Friday and Sunday.

The third suspect, Rudy McCoy, is facing three arrest warrants that order him to be held on $750,000 bond. The trio is accused of a home invasion on Thursday in which the victim was bound, beaten and locked in a van. The victim’s home and tugboat were ransacked and money, collectible coins and a cell phone were taken in the attack. At least one of the intruders was armed with a handgun. After his arrest, Holliday confessed to his role in the attack and also implicated his two co-defendants. On Monday Sheriff’s investigators presented their evidence against McCoy to Circuit Court Judge J. David Walsh, who issued arrest warrants charging the defendant with armed home invasion, armed burglary and kidnapping. Ormond Beach Police are still investigating to determine whether the defendants were responsible for a home invasion in Ormond Beach that also occurred last Thursday, about three hours before the attack in Ormond-by-the-Sea.

McCoy’s last known address was 1449 Atlanta Drive in Daytona Beach. He’s 5’11” and weighs about 190 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information on McCoy’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 323-0151 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
