MAN HOLDS UP DELTONA GROCERY STORE PHARMACY

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Saturday afternoon robbery of a Deltona grocery store pharmacy. A young man walked up to the drop-off counter and handed the employee a note that demanded drugs and claimed that the robber had a gun. No weapon was ever seen and no one was hurt during the incident. A pharmacist handed the man several bottles of Oxycontin and the man fled. Several deputies, a K-9 unit and a Sheriff’s Office helicopter responded to the scene, but the suspect was not found.

The Sheriff’s Office was notified that there was a robbery at the Publix pharmacy, 605 Courtland Blvd., at approximately 2:43 p.m. The victim told responding deputies that a man walked up to the pharmacy drop-off counter and presented a hand written note that said, “Give me Oxycontin 80mg, I have a gun.” The employee told the robber that she wasn’t a pharmacist and backed away from the counter. Then the pharmacist walked over and read the note. As the pharmacist was getting the keys she needed to unlock a cabinet, the robber slapped the counter and said, “This is no joke.” The pharmacist got some Oxycontin bottles out of the cabinet and handed them to the robber. He then grabbed his note and fled the store.

The robber was described as a white male, between 19 and 25 years old. He is approximately 5’8” tall and 150 pounds with short, brown hair. He wore a navy blue polo T-shirt with white horizontal spin striping on both sides and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact investigator Bryan Ford at (386) 860-7030 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida toll-free at 1-888-277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
