SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING ATTACK NEAR ORMOND BEACH

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attack near Ormond Beach that sent one man to the hospital with severe head wounds Saturday night. The lone victim was discovered by motorists alongside Ocean Shore Boulevard just north of Palm Drive. Responding deputies determined that the man had been attacked in his Oceanside Drive home, and that after the attack he had left the house to find help. The man was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he underwent surgery and is currently in intensive care in critical condition. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The victim, 58-year-old Scott B. McEvoy of 8 Oceanside Drive, was found at approximately 11:19 p.m. on the ground alongside Ocean Shore Boulevard. The man's injuries were believed to have been caused by being struck on the head multiple times by an unknown object. Deputies responded to the scene and then went to his home where they discovered signs of a struggle. At this time there is no information on who attacked the victim or the sequence of events. However, investigators do know that the victim’s vehicle was stolen. The Sheriff’s Office recovered the victim's black, four-door 2004 Cadillac CTS, late Sunday afternoon in west Volusia.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (386) 323-0151 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida, toll-free, at (888) 277-TIPS. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous and can qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
