DEPUTIES INVESTIGATING BABY DROWNING NEAR ORMOND BEACH 

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 4-month-old baby boy who apparently drowned in a bath tub Monday morning. Deputies along with paramedics were dispatched to 1114 Ave. H in the Ormond Breeze subdivision just south of the Ormond Beach city limits after receiving a call at 10:55 a.m. about an infant drowning. The baby was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, where he was pronounced dead at 11:29 a.m. The Sheriff’s Office’s Major Case Unit is investigating.

The investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is continuing into this morning’s apparent drowning of a 4-month-old baby boy near Ormond Beach. Investigators are collecting information regarding the circumstances of today’s incident, conducting a neighborhood canvass and interviewing witnesses. 

There were a total of five people in the house at the time of today’s incident: The victim and his mother, two other adult females and a 3-month-old baby girl who belongs to one of the other adult females and not the mother of the deceased child. The three adult females are unrelated. In addition to the victim’s mother, one adult is a roommate and the other is a house guest. 

The names of the victim and his mother are not being confirmed yet until investigators are certain that all immediate family members have been notified of the death.

The identity of the 4-month-old boy in this morning's apparent drowing is Trenton Giachette. His mother is 30-year-old Christal Giachette.
