BEALLS EMPLOYEE CHARGED
WITH GRAND THEFT
Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies have
arrested a 23-year-old woman for stealing thousands of
dollars worth of merchandise from a Bealls Outlet store
where the woman worked. Rachel Turner of Ormond Beach is
facing one count of grand theft following her arrest on
Friday.
Deputies were called to the store after
officials at the Bealls Outlet on Ocean Shore Boulevard
near Ormond Beach discovered the thefts. According to
the investigation, Turner would give store merchandise
to friends and relatives who came through her checkout
line and didn’t pay for the goods. The store’s
surveillance system captured Turner on video putting the
merchandise into shopping bags without scanning it.
After being confronted with the evidence, Turner
admitted to committing the crimes. The thefts took place
over an approximately two-month period and mostly
involved men’s clothing. Turner estimated she gave away
about $5,000 worth of merchandise. None of it was
recovered.
Turner was transported to the Volusia
County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach and booked on $1,500
bond. She also was fired from her job and told she would
be arrested for trespassing if she returned to the
store.
