Public Information Office
CHILD INJURED
DURING SHOOTING
NEAR DELAND
The Volusia
County Sheriff’s
Office is
investigating a
Friday night
shooting near
DeLand that sent
an 11-year-old
boy to the
hospital with a
gunshot wound to
his shoulder.
The Sheriff’s
Office was
notified at
approximately
10:03 p.m. that
someone had
driven by 106
Kendra Ave. and
opened fire with
a handgun,
spraying the
front yard with
multiple
bullets.
Pompilio Bolanos,
27, told
responding
deputies that
he, his wife,
his brother and
his nephew were
standing in his
brother's front
yard when a car
sped by down the
road, turned
around and came
back, and
stopped in front
of his house.
The car’s
windows were
down and Bolanos
could see four
males inside.
The front
passenger
suddenly pointed
a handgun out
the window and
Bolanos heard
about six shots
fired. The car
then sped away.
The nephew,
Marcos Bolanos,
said he had been
shot, and family
members quickly
put him in a car
and drove to
Florida Hospital
DeLand while
others called
911 to report
this incident.
Marcos sustained
one gunshot
wound to his
shoulder that
was not life
threatening.
Bolanos told
deputies that
the shooting
might have
stemmed from a
verbal argument
his family had
earlier in the
evening with a
group of
Hispanic males
they had been
having an
ongoing feud
with. The
investigation is
still active at
this time.
Further
information will
be released as
it becomes
available. Anyone
with information
about the
incident is
asked to call
the Sheriff’s
Office at (386)
736-5999 or

of Northeast
Florida,
toll-free, at
(888) 277-TIPS.

also provide
information by
texting “TIP231
plus the
message” to

information to
