MAN ROBS CONVENIENCE STORE NEAR DELAND
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Sunday morning armed robbery of a convenience store near DeLand. The storeowner was the only person in the business when a man with a gun entered and demanded money. The victim complied and the suspect then fled. There were no shots fired or injuries.
The robbery happened at approximately 9:42 a.m. at the Gas n’ Shop, 2496 East International Speedway Blvd. The 44-year-old victim was behind the counter when a man walked in and went to a drink cooler and grabbed a soda. He then approached the counter and suddenly produced a gun, pointed it at the victim and demanded cash from the register. Once he had the money in hand, the suspect then fled around the side of the building and got into a car that might have had two other people inside. The vehicle then sped away.
The robber was described as a white man about 5’5” with a thin build. He had short, crew cut hair and a mustache. He wore a black, hooded sweatshirt. His getaway vehicle was a small, white, 90s model car, possibly a Ford Taurus or a Ford Escort.
