SHERIFF’S OFFICE SEEKS
HELP LOCATING ROBBERY
SUSPECT
Volusia
County Sheriff’s
investigators have
identified the man accused
of robbing a convenience
store in Deltona nearly two
weeks ago and are seeking
the public’s help in
locating the suspect. On
Monday, investigators
obtained an arrest warrant
charging 24-year-old Calvin
Johnson with robbery.
Johnson lives in DeBary, but
his whereabouts are unknown.
Anyone providing information
that leads to the suspect’s
arrest could be eligible for
a reward of up to $1,000.
Johnson is accused of
robbing the Kangaroo Express
on Welcome Center Drive in
Deltona on the evening of
May 7. The suspect handed a
hold-up note to the store
clerk and made off with cash
from the register and some
cigarettes. While no weapon
was seen during the robbery,
the suspect claimed to have
a gun and held one hand to
his side, as if to imply
that he was armed. No one
was injured during the
robbery, and five days
later, an anonymous tip
received by Crime Stoppers
of Northeast Florida led
investigators to Johnson.
After witnesses picked out
Johnson from a photo
line-up, Sheriff’s
investigators obtained the
warrant from Circuit Court
Judge Hubert L. Grimes. The
warrant calls for Johnson to
be held on $50,000 bond.
Johnson is 5’8” and weighs
about 150 pounds, with black
hair and brown eyes. Anyone
with information on his
whereabouts is asked to call
the Sheriff’s Office or
Crime Stoppers, toll-free,
at (888) 277-TIPS. Resident
can also text a tip by
texting “TIP231 plus the
message” to CRIMES. Tipsters
who provide information to
Crime Stoppers will remain
anonymous and can qualify
for a reward of up to
$1,000. Anyone who prefers
to talk directly to a deputy
can call the Sheriff’s
Office at (386) 860-7030.
However, only callers to
Crime Stoppers will qualify
for a reward.
UPDATE: Calvin
Johnson was located last
night in district six by
Alpha Shift and placed
under arrest.
