SKYDIVER DIES AFTER LANDING ACCIDENT

A man who suffered injuries when he landed on a highway while skydiving in the DeLand area Monday died while in the hospital shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the intersection of International Speedway Boulevard and Marsh Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday when witnesses reported that a parachutist had landed on the highway. Deputies and paramedics found Aaron Moore, 31, in the median of the highway. Moore was then transported by Sheriff’s Office helicopter to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. Moore, who was from Canada, was expected to land within the Skydive DeLand area of the DeLand Airport, but missed his mark by about a quarter mile.

The Sheriff’s Office’s major case unit will be conducting a standard death investigation. The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on Wednesday.
