Not everyone can be a Deputy Sheriff. A Deputy is required to be physically fit, alert and exercise good judgment, often with very little time to analyze available options. A Deputy must have a good command of verbal and written communication skills and remain calm during emergencies. The hours are sometimes long and the responsibilities are many. Men and women who enter this honorable profession do so from a strong desire to serve others and a commitment to protect innocent members of our society from criminals who prey upon them.

We have five law enforcement patrol districts throughout Volusia County and a centrally-located Operations Center. In addition, the Sheriff's Office operates a variety of highly-trained specialized units, including SWAT, narcotics, auto theft, crime analysis, intelligence, major case, juvenile investigations, sex crimes, elder crimes, traffic, aviation, marine, motors, dive team, bomb disposal and K-9.
