Volunteer programs

Citizen Observer Program (C.O.P.)

Citizen Observer Program 
(C.O.P.) volunteers patrol the unincorporated areas of the county in Sheriff's Office vehicles equipped with a radio, a roof light, and COP markings. The volunteers receive 40 hours of basic training and ongoing monthly training. They work in uniform, but carry no weapons and have no police powers. Many of the volunteers are certified traffic control specialists. A youth fingerprint identification program is also offered. Are you interested in volunteering? Citizen Volunteer Auxiliary Program

The Citizen Volunteer Auxiliary Program (CVAP) was organized in 1989 and its volunteers provide professional, technical, clerical, and computer assistance throughout the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in East and West Volusia.

Volunteers work in various offices and units including: Career Criminal, Civil Process Service, Crime Analysis, District Offices, Evidence, Fingerprinting, Firearms Range, Internal Affairs, Investigative Services, Jury Management, PAL Youth Tutoring, Public Information, Special Services, Technical Services, and Training.

Citizen Volunteer Chaplain Program

The Citizen Volunteer Chaplain Program is comprised of clergy from many religious groups throughout the county. They assist the Victim Advocate Program, the general public, and Sheriff's Office employees. For more information, contact the C.V.C.P. coordinator Rev. Citizen Volunteer Victim Advocate Program

The Citizen Volunteer Victim Advocate Program trains qualified volunteers to function as Victim Advocates who assist the Sheriff's Office by responding to requests for assistance for victims of crime in the unincorporated areas of the county, Deltona, DeBary and Pierson. The volunteers receive Victim Advocacy Practitioner training and work in concert with Volusia County Sheriff's Deputies on various types of incidents.
