Volusia County Council Approves Permanent Dog Beach in Ormond Beach

The Volusia County Council voted to make the dog beach in Ormond Beach a permanent fixture today. Initially launched in November 2023 as an 18-month pilot program, the initiative designated a portion of the beach between Milsap Road and Rockefeller Drive as dog-friendly. Over the pilot program's duration, the dog beach successfully addressed the community's stated desire to share the beach with their pets while generating minimal concerns.

During the pilot program, Volusia County Animal Services observed nearly 13,000 dogs enjoying the beach with their humans and received no reports of significant issues or interactions between animals or humans. Primarily focused on compliance with leash laws, the program was staffed for an average of 31 hours per week.

By making the dog beach program permanent, Volusia County is ensuring residents and visitors alike have a dedicated area to create unforgettable moments with their furry friends. For more information on the dog beach program, visit www.volusia.org/dogbeach.
